The Verdict

Buy whichever ecosystem you already run — tooling familiarity outweighs the hardware differences. All else equal, the R740 usually trades slightly cheaper with better parts liquidity, while the DL380 Gen10 has the edge in build quality reputation and iLO's remote management experience. Mixed shops default to Dell for the marginally lower total cost.
